Five content marketing tips

Content marketing can refer to many different things. Content can be anything from blog posts to webinars and videos to social media posts. Content marketing in all of its forms is growing in popularity and for good reason. A well-executed content marketing campaign can yield tremendous results for businesses. When you do content marketing right, consumers will view your company as an authority figure within your industry.

Of course content marketing takes time and effort just like any other marketing strategy. You need to come up with some goals of what you want to achieve and carefully align your brand’s image with the needs of your customers. Here are a few tips for doing content marketing the right way.

Know your audience

Different social media platforms lend themselves better to certain demographics. The audience using each social media platform will have some key differences. It’s crucial when doing any content marketing involving social media that you are using the right social media platforms for your content and that you understand the audience on each of those platforms.

Beware of self-reference

The marketer in you will want to turn every bit of content you create into an advertisement for your company, product or service. But consumers of your content are savvy and they will turned off by excessive self-reference. The occasional reference to your own company, product or service is acceptable. But do it too much and you will not be seen as a trustworthy source of information.

Share what works

Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Not all of your content has to take the same form. Some types of content for instance might be more effective in the format of an infographic. Other ideas include instructional videos, photos, and articles. Over time you’ll learn what formats work best for your business.

Share content from other sources

You are allowed to share content that you didn’t create personally so long as you give credit where credit is due. Spend a little time each day researching hot topics and news in your businesses niche. By staying current on developments in your industry and sharing them with consumers, you’ll be viewed as a reliable source of good information.

Measure and adapt

Finally, you can’t know how effective your content marketing efforts are if you’re not measuring success. Different social media platforms have different metrics you can look at. For example, how many people read content that you posted? How many shared it? Retweeted it? Acted on it? As you pay attention to these and other metrics, you’ll see what is working and what isn’t and you can adapt as needed.
